The President Invites Relatives of Shot National Guard Personnel to the Presidential Residence
Former President Trump stated on Sunday that he has asked the loved ones of a National Guard member killed last week to visit the executive mansion.
He noted that he spoke to her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Tragic Shooting
Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a attack on Wednesday in DC.
Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Gatherings across the state have been held in their honor.
White House Call
The commander-in-chief explained he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the families of both members of the state National Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” the president addressed journalists. “And likewise with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Response
Mourners came together over the past few days at the high school in the state to honor Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been working with the military unit as part of the president’s federal initiative to aid law enforcement in Washington DC.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“Sarah was the type of pupil that instructors wished for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a positive energy that inspired people around her,” the principal, the principal of her alma mater, informed the press. “She was caring, caring and always willing to help others.”
Funeral details for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Legal Steps and Government Adjustments
Officials have charged a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of homicide and two counts of violent assault while armed.
The event caused the Trump administration to suspend asylum processing and halt providing visas to owners of travel documents.
Status of Wolfe
Wolfe, a resident of the city, started his military career in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, according to the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader the governor mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
Attorney general Bondi stated on a news show that she planned to meet with Wolfe’s family.
Memory of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, working as a law enforcement officer with excellence, as stated by the state guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had fortitude,” Morrisey informed the gathering at the service. “Though her time ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to last forever.”
