The Gory Cartoon Movie Ending That Lingers Viewers
Among every mature animated films I have personally viewed, no other has remained with me as much as the terror-laced ending of a graphically gory and highly provocative film from 2022 Unicorn Wars.
Back in the year 2015, the Spain-based filmmaker crafted a dark, somber , often savage universe that included several minor , desolate twinges of hope.
Although Unicorn Wars appears as it came from a drive to advance animation further, the filmmaker explained that it was more an attempt to express a universal, cross-cultural message about “the mutual source of all wars.”
That idea is conveyed by means of a group of brightly hued teddy bears , clearly inspired by a popular series of lovable characters.
Being raised in a society built around militarism and the war machine, a lot of these creatures are fixated on killing the mythical beasts, because of a religious scripture which states them they used to be rulers of the forest, until these creatures drove them out.
A few did not entirely accepted the propaganda, , choose to sample narcotics and mate in the forest.
Unlike their cuddly counterparts, these bright beings have visible genitals and obvious libidos.
For a certain notably brutal, cynical bear, Bluey, the war against the unicorns turns into a road to control — and especially to supremacy above his more tender, nicer brother the character Tubby.
The character is a bully , an apparent antisocial figure , and when terror overcomes his unit and claims his teammates individually, he seizes increasingly control personally, via progressively bloody, damaging approaches.
Meanwhile, the unicorns are experiencing their own horror, in the form of an expanding, deadly beast in their woods.
“At the beginning, it appears as a comedy,” the filmmaker stated. “However it becomes a more serious and melancholic film. And in the finale, it transforms into a terrifying movie.”
The Unicorn Wars commences feeling a bit like one of the most whimsical movies from an iconic filmmaker, that discover a mischievous joy in letting drawn beings swear, shoot each other, or have intimate relations.
Then it turns into closer to a bleaker film from the same artist, including ever more graphic violence , a tangible relation to the real tragedy of conflict.
In the finale, it is a full-on theatrical horror carnage.
The terror that makes the film a perfect Halloween viewing begins much sooner than indicated.
Unicorn Wars is ideal for the hardcore gorehounds, for fans of extreme cinema who wish to watch a film they have not watched previously, and who can handle a plot that offers unflinching brutality.
View it with the lights off without any distractions, and the finale will dig under your skin and take up residence there.
