Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was expected for doubts to be asked about his position after a further convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth loss in twelve matches, marking the club's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got a lot of support from above,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win obviously but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I accept my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match yet so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Failings and Squad Response
The manager expressed regret over familiar weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a phase of this nature with outcomes this poor.”
Jones concluded, “However we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until it is removed, we’re always going to fight.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to the top, show everyone again what this club is about and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
