New York Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Shooting
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.
Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during a recent discussion.
“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they are doing well and he will come through this without issue.”
It remained unclear when Boyd might be released the hospital, where his condition is described as serious yet stable.
“Don’t know just yet,” the coach said. “But I will say this, just talking to him, he seemed very positive. Once more, that puts my mind at ease, because of his outlook and he’s talking that way.”
Authorities shared surveillance images earlier this week of a man sought in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting is currently under review and officials stated it’s not clear if Boyd was singled out. There were no additional victims according to reports.
The attack took place around 2 a.m. on Sunday near MSG and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to a medical center after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, as reported. The shooter fled the scene.
Glenn mentioned Boyd has been in his thoughts “a ton” since the news broke. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a newborn.
“My initial concern, he just had a kid,” Glenn said. “And I’m thinking about his wife, considering his child and I hope he recovers fully. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“A certain process is underway, that I won’t detail, but It is reassuring that he will recover excellently.”
Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, after joining the team, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on 18 August with a shoulder issue that needed an operation.
He joined the Jets as a new signing in spring and was anticipated to become a significant contributor of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a training camp practice on August 2 and was carted from the field.
Boyd has stayed involved with the squad during the entire campaign while working his way back.
“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn said. “In fact, he attends every game. He’s fully engaged. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”
Boyd, a Texas native, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of Texas University in the 2019 draft. He later played for the Arizona Cardinals in last year and later was with the Texans subsequently. Boyd inked a single-season agreement valued at $1.6 million with New York in March.
