Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Ignites Intense Debates Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, the game developers launched a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few key changes:
- Every squad has just 8 real players, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities done by real players grant complete experience points, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
- Only two locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Features like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.
In short, the playlist delivers on its name: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it provides more options for players seeking different methods to have fun with the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are mad.
Player Responses: From Fury to Support
"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," and someone else lists everything they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this title 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Community Input
All that said, there are constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase wait times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. Similarly, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was meant to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the community compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. A different user describes this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?
If the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
